Web Campaigns
Build targeted on-site experiences with campaign groups, variations, rules, and triggers.
Web Campaigns are on-site experiences shown to website visitors. They combine audience targeting, behavioral rules, display triggers, timing, and reusable designs so you can show the most relevant experience at the right moment.
Understand the campaign structure
Web Campaigns use a three-level structure:
- Campaign: the top-level objective and status.
- Campaign Group: the targeting layer that defines who can see the campaign, when it can run, and under which rules or triggers.
- Variation: the design or content that the visitor sees.
The editor's left panel reflects this hierarchy: a campaign contains campaign groups, and each group contains one or more variations. This structure lets one overall campaign support different audiences, display conditions, or design tests.
Manage web campaigns
From the campaign list, you can create a campaign, search or filter campaigns by status or goal, enable or disable delivery, review the number of groups, and open the campaign actions menu.
Build a web campaign
The campaign editor includes a Save as Draft action and a Publish action. Use the draft state while the campaign is still being configured; publish only after the group, variations, rules, and triggers have been reviewed.
Configure the campaign
At the campaign level, set:
- Campaign Name for internal use.
- Campaign Status using the on/off control.
- Goal, such as Purchase, Click, or Lead.
The selected goal gives the campaign a shared outcome that can be reviewed later in Insights.
Configure a campaign group
Each group carries the delivery and targeting settings. The group details can include:
- Language and target segment.
- Start date, end date, and campaign duration.
- Priority and frequency.
- Allocation strategy.
- Rules and trigger type.
- The group's variations and current status.
The Timing section shows when the group is allowed to run. Priority & Frequency resolves how groups behave when they address the same audience: priority uses values from 1 (lowest) to 100 (highest), while frequency controls how often a user can receive the campaign in a day. The example shown in the editor uses an Even allocation strategy.
Add and review variations
Create one or more variations under a group to test alternate designs or messages. The group details list each variation's name, design type, preview action, traffic allocation percentage, and status.
Use Preview Design before publishing. If a group has multiple active variations, make sure their traffic allocations reflect the intended distribution.
Configure rules and triggers
The group configuration separates Variations, Rules, and Trigger into tabs.
Rules
Rules define whether a visitor qualifies to see a campaign. The Rules tab groups conditions using logical operators such as AND or OR. In the displayed example, Group 1 (And) contains a pageURL condition with the Contains operator. Add conditions that match the visitor behavior or page context you intend to target.
Trigger
The Trigger tab defines the event or conditions that cause the eligible campaign to appear. A custom trigger can expose controls such as:
- Delay before display.
- Inactive For duration.
- Scroll Down By percentage.
- Exit Intent.
The example configuration displays a custom trigger with a delay, inactivity duration, scroll percentage, and an exit-intent value. Treat these as campaign-specific conditions rather than universal defaults; set them to suit the visitor behavior you want to address.
Review campaign details
The campaign Details tab provides the campaign overview, including its name, goal, status, created date, and last updated date. Each campaign group then exposes its language, segment, priority, dates, duration, frequency, allocation strategy, trigger, variations, rules, and previews.
Use this page to validate the full configuration before changing a live campaign. It is especially useful for confirming that the group uses the correct segment and that its rules, trigger, and timing do not conflict with another group.
Inspect group variations
The Variations view inside a campaign group lists the selected designs, their traffic share, and whether each one is active. Open a design preview to confirm the visitor experience before publishing. For active variations, keep the combined traffic allocation at 100%.
Analyze web campaign insights
The Insights tab summarizes performance using:
- Total Impressions.
- Total Reach.
- Engagement Rate.
- Conversion Rate.
It also includes Performance by Group, Conversion Distribution, and the Group Performance Details table. The table can compare group name, impressions, reach, engagement, unique engagement, and conversions.
Use group-level performance to see which targeting logic or variation combination is contributing the most value. When a campaign has not yet received traffic, the metrics and charts may show zero values or empty states; revisit the page after the campaign has had time to run.
Recommended workflow
- Create a campaign and select the business goal it should measure.
- Add a campaign group, then define its audience, dates, priority, and frequency.
- Add one or more variations, assign their traffic allocation, and preview each design.
- Define the rules and trigger that control who sees the experience and when it appears.
- Save as a draft for review, publish when ready, then use Insights to refine future versions.
