Email Campaigns

Create, publish, monitor, and improve email campaigns from one workspace.

Email Campaigns is the workspace for planning, sending, monitoring, and improving email communication. Use it to create a campaign, target the right audience, test more than one message variation, and review delivery and engagement after launch.

Before you begin

Prepare the items the campaign needs before opening the creation flow:

Only configured sender identities are available in the Sender's email address selector during campaign setup.

Manage email campaigns

The Email Campaigns list is the central place to review every campaign. From this list, your team can:

  • Create a new campaign.
  • Search for a campaign by name.
  • Filter campaigns by their current status.
  • Review publishing dates, recipient lists, and the number of variations.
  • Open the actions menu for the campaign you need to manage.

Use the list to find a campaign quickly, then open it to review its configuration or performance.

The example below uses fictional campaign names to show how the list presents recipients, segments, status, variation count, publishing time, and the actions menu for each campaign.

Use search and the status filter to find a campaign, then use its row to review its audience, variations, publish time, and available actions.

Create an email campaign

The Create Email Campaign screen guides you through four steps. The progress indicator at the top shows where you are: Email Information, Audience information & Tracking, Campaign Variation, and Campaign Timing.

1. Enter email information

In the Email information panel, provide the core campaign settings:

  • Email Campaign Name: the internal name used by your team to identify the campaign.
  • Campaign Language: the language used for the campaign and its content.
  • Sender's email address: the configured Email Sender identity that recipients will see.

Use Manage email addresses if the sender you need has not been created yet. When the information is complete, select Next.

Step 1 collects the campaign's internal name, language, and the configured sender identity used for delivery.

2. Choose the audience and tracking

Use Audience information & Tracking to define who can receive the campaign and to configure the tracking available for it. Select the relevant contact lists and/or segments, then review the audience carefully before moving forward. This step keeps delivery aligned with the intended customers and provides the data used in the campaign insights.

A contact list is a fixed group of contacts, while a segment is a dynamic group that changes as people match or stop matching its rules. Enable UTM Tracking when you want click-through traffic to be identified in an analytics tool by source, medium, campaign, and related UTM values.

Select one or more contact lists and/or segments, then decide whether tracked links should receive UTM parameters.

3. Add campaign variations

In Campaign Variation, create one or more versions of the email. Variations let you compare messaging, subject lines, or designs without creating separate campaigns.

For each variation, configure and review:

  • An internal variation name.
  • The email subject.
  • The preheader text.
  • The selected email design and its preview.
  • UTM parameters when campaign links need analytics attribution.
  • The traffic allocation used to distribute recipients between variations.

When no template has been chosen yet, the variation area prompts you to select Add Variation. Add the email template first, then configure each version before moving to timing. If you use multiple active variations, make sure their allocations add up to 100%.

Use Add Variation to select an email template and create the version that recipients will receive.

4. Set campaign timing

Use Campaign Timing to set the campaign's publish time. Review the audience, sender, and all variations before completing the flow so the campaign is ready to publish at the intended time.

Choose Draft to save work without sending, Schedule to set a future date and time, Send Now to send after finishing setup, or Recurring to deliver the campaign at regular intervals. Select the option that matches the purpose of this send before saving or publishing.

The timing step determines whether the campaign stays as a draft, is scheduled, sends immediately, or repeats on a schedule.

Review campaign details

Opening a campaign shows Details and Insights tabs. The Details tab begins with an overview card that brings the campaign configuration into one place.

The overview can show:

  • Campaign name and language.
  • Contact lists and segments used for targeting.
  • Selected sender and tracking status.
  • Number of variations and their distribution.
  • Publish date, creation date, and last updated date.
  • Current campaign status, such as Running.

This view is useful when you need to confirm what was sent, to whom, and when before reviewing the results.

The details example below uses fictional data. It shows where to verify the campaign status, selected list, sender, tracking state, variation count, and the key time stamps before investigating performance.

The Details overview keeps the campaign configuration, audience references, sender, tracking, status, and dates together for review.

Inspect variations and previews

The Variations section displays a tab for each version of the email. Select a variation tab to inspect its content and allocation. The allocation badge, such as 34% or 66%, shows the share of recipients assigned to that version.

Each variation view includes:

  • Subject and Preheader values.
  • UTM Parameters: Source, Medium, Campaign, Content, and Term.
  • A live email preview.
  • Controls to switch between mobile and desktop preview modes.

Use the preview controls to check the final content on both screen sizes. Before launch, make sure the allocations across active variations represent the distribution you intend to use.

The following examples use fictional values. They illustrate how two versions can share one campaign while using distinct subjects, content, and allocations. The allocation badges of 34% and 66% together equal the full audience.

Monitor email insights

Select the Insights tab after the campaign is active to review its delivery and engagement. The top summary cards report:

  • Total Target: the number of intended recipients.
  • Delivery Rate: how many messages reached recipients successfully.
  • Open Rate: how recipients engaged by opening the email.
  • CTR: the click-through rate for tracked links.

Read the delivery pipeline

The Email Delivery Pipeline visualizes the campaign lifecycle in order:

  1. Target Recipients
  2. Queued
  3. Sending Done
  4. Sent
  5. Delivered
  6. Opened
  7. Clicked

The lower part of the pipeline separates messages needing attention:

  • Failed: the message could not be processed or sent.
  • Pending: delivery is still awaiting a final result.
  • Dropped: the message was not delivered because it no longer met delivery requirements or campaign conditions.

Use the Delivery & engagement table to compare each variation's target, status, delivery rate, open rate, and clicked rate. This helps identify whether a specific message, subject, or design is performing better than the others.

The Insights example uses fictional performance data to show how the summary cards, pipeline, and variation comparison work together. Start with delivery and exceptions, then compare opens and clicks between variations to decide what to improve next.

Insights combines headline delivery and engagement metrics with a delivery pipeline and a per-variation performance table.

Improve the next send

After launch, use the Details tab to verify the configuration and Insights to find improvement opportunities. A practical review sequence is:

  1. Confirm the selected sender, audience, publish date, and variation allocation.
  2. Check delivery exceptions before judging engagement.
  3. Compare open and click performance between variations.
  4. Reuse the stronger subject, content, or design in a future campaign.
